Today I get Zapped (January 6, 2001)

I'm feeling the same kind of butterflies I get before a big show or the First day.

It will be a first. I haven't seen without my glasses since 3rd. grade.

Why do this? It's expen$ive, has risks, and is really just a cosmetic thing. But it's more than that. I guess I'm just hoping to have the Alarm Clock epifany that everyone who has done this seems to have.

The ophtalmologist who is doing it, Dr. Whitten, has the best track record in the area, if not the country. There's a degree of comfort in seeing the photos of Tiger Woods (Whitten zapped him too) and the Washington Wizards on the walls. Do celebrities have to pay for this, or can theyget away with offering to endorse it?

This waiting room: indirect neon lighting, something like the backlight used by a radiologist. The christmas tree (I guess they're waiting for Melchior and company) has, hanginq from its synthetic limbs, glass spheres painted like assorted eyeballs. I believe they all have blue pupils, but I'll check on that.

Just had my Orb Scan done. It's like a contour map of the cornea. The device they used looked something like an old episode of the time tunnel, what with the bright glowing circles of light, sharing in the same origin point, an orange glowing spot. Something tells me that I'll be seeing a lot of those today.

I just had my pre-op visit, where amongst other things I was given a pair of sunshields reminiscent of those worn by the visitors in V: the final battle. The drops regimen is pretty serious.

What's with the golf photos? The Dr.'s practice has a newsletter that' on its cover, a photo of the WLA Golf tour-seems like he's zapped a few golfers.

I am one room away from the laser.

Later: It's a day after. I have more to write about. Tomorrow. But my first reaction is, WOW!
