Rediscovering pleasure
No, this web journal has not been abandoned. But I've been busy decompressing. Last December, I turned in my last course-related paper in the pursuit of my Master's Degree. By that point, I'd had the monkey of an unwritten paper glaring at me over my shoulder pretty much consistently since January of last year. Not much energy to write for fun when there's the pressure of writing for academic pleasure (a rewarding if sometimes dry experience).
So, in the four weeks since, I've relaxed a whole lot. I finished a sculpture for my wall that I'd been working on for more than a year. I tackled domestic projects I'd been neglecting. I watched movies, relaxed, and enjoyed what few warm days we had in December. We're currently in the midst of a third week of below-freezing temperatures without anything resembling the post-coital weather bliss after a fresh release of wet snow.
Dean didn't place first in Iowa, but for the first time in years, I feel that regardless of who wins (barring Lieberman doing something magical), if Kerry, Edwards or Dean were to win the nomination we'll win back the White House and take back our country from the welfare-for-the-rich goons that are currently running it into the ground.
